  1. 1873-1943. Austrian producer and director,
  2. whose Expressionist style was predominant in
  3. German theatre and film during the 1920s and
  4. 1930s. Directors such as Murnau and Lubitsch
  5. and actors such as Dietrich worked with him.
  6. He co-directed the US film A Midsummer
  7. Night's Dream 1935. In 1920 Reinhardt founded
  8. the Salzburg Festival. When the Nazis came to
  9. power, he lost his theatres and, after
  10. touring Europe as a guest director, went to
  11. the USA, where he produced and directed. He
  12. founded an acting school and theatre workshop
  13. in Hollywood.
